Daily Antiwhelm #26

Pick One Thing That Matters Today. Let the Rest Wait.

You sit down to finish something.

Then you notice the laundry. You’re out of detergent. You grab your phone to order more and answer three messages.

An hour later, the detergent’s on its way.

The thing you sat down to do is still waiting.

Everything doesn’t need to happen today

Pay the bill. Finish the draft. Clean out the closet.

Same list. Different reasons to do them.

The bill is due today. The closet has looked like that since June.

It can probably make it to Friday.

Don’t add a project to it

You open the draft and decide your files need organizing first.

Now you’re building a system for a paragraph.

Write the paragraph.

Answer the email without clearing your inbox. Put the clothes away without reviewing your wardrobe.

Finish what you started.

The Antiwhelm Move

Ask: What matters today?

Pick that. When something else comes up, check whether it needs doing now.

If it does, handle it. If it doesn’t, let it wait.

And when you finish, don’t add something just because there’s time left.

Pick one thing that matters today. Let the rest wait.

This is Antiwhelm.
