Get Excited About Living

You do not need another five-year plan. You need something to look forward to on Friday.

A concert. Dinner with someone who makes you laugh. A road trip with no particular reason to go. Or an evening at home with the music loud and your phone somewhere else.

It does not have to be expensive, impressive, or worth posting about. It just has to be something you actually want to do.

When everything becomes preparation

You work all week waiting for the weekend. Then the weekend arrives and you use it to catch up on everything you did not finish during the week.

You talk about taking a trip once work settles down. You save the good clothes for an occasion. You put off calling a friend because you want a whole afternoon free.

You tell yourself you will have more fun when you are less busy, more organized, in better shape, or a little further ahead.

But life keeps happening while you get ready for it.

Having a good time is not a reward

There are things that need doing. Bills have to be paid. People depend on you. Some days are simply full.

None of that means you have to put every enjoyable thing at the end of the line.

You can take a walk because the weather is nice. Play a song twice because you love it. Say yes to dinner even though the laundry is still sitting there.

You do not have to turn the fun into another assignment, either. No bucket list spreadsheet. No thirty-day challenge. No pressure to make every weekend memorable.

Sometimes a good Tuesday is enough.

The Antiwhelm Move

Think of one thing you have been saying you want to do. Not a goal you should accomplish. Something you would genuinely enjoy.

Now ask: What is the smallest version I could do this week?

Maybe the vacation becomes a day trip. The big night out becomes dinner. The concert becomes dancing in your kitchen to the whole album.

Pick a time. Invite someone if you want to. Or go alone. Then enjoy it without making it useful.

There will always be another chore, another email, another thing to figure out.

You can do some of those things tomorrow.

Get excited about living. Not just getting things done.

This is Antiwhelm.
