Daily Antiwhelm #14

Stop Forcing

You’ve explained it.

You’ve explained it differently.

You’re now looking for the sentence that will finally make them understand.

More effort, same conversation

You keep convincing. Chasing. Fixing. Trying to make it happen.

Maybe they understand and don’t agree. Maybe they don’t want what you want. Maybe they said they would do something and keep choosing not to.

You can spend a lot of time trying to find a nicer explanation for the same answer.

Another message does not always improve the situation. Sometimes it just reopens it.

Stop your part

A job application may need a follow-up. A real misunderstanding may need clearing up. Do that.

But look at what your effort is doing now.

Are you providing missing information? Or repeating information someone already has?

Are you making your own decision? Or trying to make someone else make yours?

You can care about the outcome and stop pushing for it. You don’t need to know exactly what happens next before you stop doing what isn’t helping.

The Antiwhelm Move

Look at one conversation or situation you keep trying to move forward.

Have you already done your part?

If you have, stop adding more. Make the next decision that belongs to you.

Go live your life.
