Daily Antiwhelm #8
Your Life Is Not a Project
You do not need to turn your Saturday into a plan for becoming a better person.
You can just have a Saturday.
Even the day off has requirements
Get outside. Exercise. See friends. Clean something. Read something. Prepare for the week.
Rest, but make it the kind of rest that improves your performance later.
By dinner, you’re reviewing how well you used the day.
It was a day off. Apparently, there were deliverables.
There are real things to do. The laundry may need doing. You may have promised to pick someone up. Handle those.
But you don’t need to prove that every hour helped you become richer, healthier, or more interesting.
A day can just be a day
Go for a walk because you want to walk. Watch the show because you like the show. Sit outside without making it part of your morning routine.
You can have goals. You can work toward them.
The rest of your life does not need to become supporting material.
Your life is not a project.
The Antiwhelm Move
Choose something you would enjoy today.
Do it without requiring it to teach you something, fix you, or prepare you for tomorrow.
You don’t owe anyone a useful Saturday.
